Description

This neckpiece is in the style and tradition of jewelry worn by ancient royalty.

The chain is made from over 1000 links, each hand made by fusing coils of Fine (.999) silver wire, and then individually shaping and weaving each link, in the same pattern as used by the ancient Etruscan artisans.

Because the chain is woven from individual links, rather than knit from a continuous piece of wire, it is incredibly supple and slinky. Very, very comfortable to wear.

The end caps on the chain are made from fused coils of Fine silver as well. Sterling silver is used for the end rings and the plates they sit on, for strength. The S hook findings are made from Sterling silver, with torch balled ends.

The chain is 18 inches from end cap to end cap, 19 inches if you include the rings and S hooks. The chain proper is 4.6mm in diameter, the end caps are 7.5mm at the widest points.

For those interested in fine details, the chain is constructed from hand pulled and hand fused 22 gauge fine silver wire links. The weave is known as 4-way or 2-way double loop-in-loop.

The centerpiece contains a cabochon of Painted Valley Jasper, from Brazil. Painted Valley Jasper belongs to a class of jaspers that are brecciated - that is, long, long, ago, the rock was partially formed, and then blasted apart by forces cosmic, and then re-settled again into a solid mass - over the course of centuries. This ancient process shows itself as flecks of different colors, each of irregular shape embedded in a matrix. Here the flecks are red, pink, and yellow.

The jasper is set in a hand cut Sterling Silver bezel brazed to a Sterling Silver back plate. The top of the back plate is textured and has a bezel set Green Topaz amid an ancient design motif.

This piece took approximately 70 hours to make, most of it devoted to the chain (which can be worn alone or with any pendant that can pass an 8mm round chain.

The offered price of $875 represents a better than 15% discount on the price of the chain alone - with the pendant as a free bonus!
