Green Sea Turtle -- natural history illustrated pendant

Found in subtropical and tropical oceans all over the world, the green sea turtle is probably best known as a symbol of the Hawaiian islands. Called 'honu' in the Hawaiian language, these aquatic reptiles have been familiar on beaches and in the turquoise waters of Hawai'i since the Polynesians first arrived. It is amazing to see clear drawings of honu, centuries old, in the petroglyphs the ancient Polynesians carved into lava, and just as special to see honu sleeping on black sand beaches in Hawai'i, as they've been doing for thousands of years. To the Hawaiians, the honu is a symbol of peace, humility and longevity (honu may live for more than 70 years!) Perhaps when you wear this honu it will help you to envision the peaceful blue waters of the tropical Pacific and feel closer to these tranquil, graceful creatures.

The drawings contained in each of these pendants are reductions of my own original pen, ink and watercolor illustrations, inspired by the etchings of Victorian naturalists. Every piece comes with a keepsake information card that tells you more about each animal, and is signed and numbered. The pendant you will receive is not the piece pictured in this photograph, but one just like it, made to order.

The pendants are sterling silver and glass, with resin-coated silver leaf on the back of the stone. I hand assemble every piece. They are approximately .8 inches wide and 1.5 inches tall, and come with an 18" oxidized sterling silver chain. This pendant can also be purchased with a 16"-18" inch adjustable black ribbon with sterling silver findings -- please specify "chain" or "ribbon" in your order.
