The Century Plan grows wild in the tough Mojave Desert. This scene from the Valley of Fire, near Las Vegas, shows them in full bloom. The paper was made from natural fibers and really captures the feeling of the blooming desert.

The road inside the Valley of Fire is typical of the winding roads of the remote desert, doubling over itself many times, following with respect the trails and washes that form the delicate desert lands.
This paper was made with a cotton blend and actual pink clay to give the natural coloring.

Process: Woodcuts are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.

All my woodcuts are made in limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil.
