Image: It's the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Dog! In the desert, the "dogs" are well represented by the hardy coyote. Abundant still despite sprawling communities, this charming canine fills the night with concertoes of howls, yaps and yips designed to audibly mark territories, find each other...or just have a jolly good time. Camping in the desert night is a sure way to be rewarded by the desert sonatas...I almost called the print "the three tenors".
Process: Wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually end-grain maple in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.
All my woodcuts are made in limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil.
