Citrus Sparkly Barrette

I like to take apart vintage jewelry pieces and making new things out them, creating a new purpose and home for that stray earring, odd button, or whatever. Over the years I’ve collected many beautiful pieces, not just jewelry but also buttons, trims, stones, beads, and glass, which I use to make these barrettes.

For this one I used faceted glass costume rhinestones in set in base metal mounts with a 50s-era central rhinestone medallion (it used to be a button on a ladies’ silk robe) applied to a large plated metal barrette. I love the greeny-yellow color of these rhinestones – I think they would look really lovely with red hair.

Measures 3-3/8” [8.5 cm] across. Large size – will hold an entire ponytail.

The barrettes I make from vintage jewelry are heavier than modern barrettes. Many have glass, crystal or soft metal components, so handle gently.
