Nepalese Nilofur Chank
Description
This fascinating pendant was made in Kathmandu, Nepal by Nilofur, an artisan using age-old techniques and materials. It is intricately repoussee'd brass, inlaid with Tibetan Turquoise and Coral; its focal point is a lovely piece of Chank (Conch). And it’s double-sided...identically inlaid and repoussee'd on front and back!Repoussee is a method of embossing a metal sheet (silver, copper, brass) by punching and hammering a design from the back, then polishing it up in front with a chasing hammer, producing a three-dimensional bas-relief surface.
The necklace itself combines 4 long handmade repoussee'd brass beads and Tibetan Turquoise round beads. The clasp is brass, made in East India. Wear this piece plain or fancy! It goes everywhere in style and is an excellent investment.
Pendant measures 3" long, 2 3/4" wide, and appr. 1" deep. Necklace is appr. 19" in length.
