Handmade quilt featuring dragon fly, koi fish and lilly pads, made with batik fabric.
Titled: Messengers to the Fairies
I began this quilt with thoughts of a summer afternoon at the lake. Here in Florida, the dragon flies swarm together in the late afternoon, early evening. They seem to like the pond that was in my pasture, before we moved. (I miss the pond for this very reason) Sometimes, if you sit very still, they will take a break on your shoulder. Some folks say that dragon flies are the messengers of fairies. The pattern is from Liz Schwartz, however I enlarged it a GREAT deal (it was originally a wall hanging). The dragon fly wings are layered with a shimmering organza, and all of the fabrics used are batik. I searched many quilt shops for just the right fabric for the koi fish, lily pads, and the water. All of the fabrics used are batiks, other than the organza (wings), border (a black dragon fly print) and the backing (a cream dragon fly print).The technique utilized to construct this quilt is foundation paper piecing. (Labor intensive for those of you who do not quilt)
The measurements are: 62 x 69 inches

All of the quilts that I make are with 100% cotton fabric, quilt shop quality. I use 100% cotton batting as well. I take a great deal of pride in my creations and there is only “one of one” made. It will be a one of a kind, unique creation.
My artistic abilities do not carry over to photography, this quilt is awesome in person, with a lot of detail and the quilting compliments it perfectly.
