Firefly, The Train Job:
"Kaylee, what the hell's going on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?"

During a chat one evening with our team, BigDamnCrafters (for those who love the sci-fi series Firefly), this idea came to me. Shortly after that, a fan from Arizona asked our team for donations to be used at a Firefly/Serenity event (Can't Stop the Serenity) in a gift basket. I figured that a terrifying space monkey is exactly what she needed. So I made two--one for her and one for here.

This is Paul, the Terrifying Space Monkey. If you don't believe me, just check the nametag on the back of his oxygen tanks (courtesy of Liz Staley, lizstaley.etsy.com).

Terrifying Space Monkeys, or TSM as they're more commonly referred to, can be quite hazardous to a lone ship, out in the middle of the black. No one really understands why they do it--board ships, destroy the engine rooms, run off with bits of wrecked wiring and circuit boards. But they can definitely wreak havoc on an unsuspecting ship. And don't even ask about what they leave behind....

*******************************
Paul is sculpted from Darwi air-dry clay and painted with artists acrylics. I then covered his head, hands and feet with fake fur, followed by a very thorough haircut. His spacesuit is made from a lovely, silver lame...er...high-tech spacey-type material and permanently attached. The wire that he ripped off of some vital piece of equipment on the ship is held in a death grip--don't even think you'll pry it from his hand. He stands right at 6" tall and is mostly non-poseable (his legs can be moved gently to help keep his balance).

How, exactly, does Paul fit into the Storkop universe? All of the TSM originated there, of course. When humans left in search of a new solar system and new planets to colonize, the TSM impersonated a crew of terraformers (an employee at the processing station was quoted as saying, "well they did seem really short and hairy, but all their paperwork was in order"). They've been terrorizing lone ships ever since.
