Blood Countess Art Dress Recycled Leather Gloves
Description
This is a dress inspired by Andre Codrescu’s novel called The Blood Countess. It is based on a historical figure, a 16th century Hungarian countess, Erzabet of Bathory, who had the nasty habit of torturing and killing young women. She allegedly bathed in their blood in order to preserve her own youthful appearance. The gloves represent the skin of her victims. She is estimated to have killed over 600 girls.I spent months collecting used white leather gloves, then deconstructing them by carefully ripping the seams. I then sewed them together to form the gown, and lined it with scarlet dupioni silk. The gown is laced through grommets in the front, so the measurements are variable.
This is a one-of-a-kind creation and has been shown in art galleries and museums. You can see more of my work at www.rachelwright.net.
I am offering free shipping on the art dresses.
