Description

This triangular shawl’s final shawl size is approximately 86” across the neck edge and 38” down the center back. It is worked from right tip, across the back to the left tip using basic lace knitting stitches over a basic garter stitch pattern. The sizing is done by increasing stitches along the bottom until the center back is reached and then decreasing stitches along the same border. In the pictures shown, the blue-green yarn is a hand dyed angora/wool yarn while the orange shawl was made using Lana Grossa’s KidAir (a mohair, wool, silk blend that is very soft).

This pattern requires approx. 800 yards (750 m) of worsted weight yarn, one set size US 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles, and a yarn needle to run the ends in. A smaller shawl can be made using a sport weight yarn and smaller needles if desired.

This is a fairly simple lace pattern for someone interested in trying a lace shawl pattern without using lace weight yarns (and the corresponding small needles). Stitches include knit, yarn over, k2tog (knit 2 together), and k3tog. The beginning pattern instructions are written out to get you started and the entire pattern is grafted out in four graphs that can be taped together. Each graph includes some overlap rows to match them up to the other graphs.
