Sour Grapes - Fluorite Earrings with Pearls Peridot and Silver

You've heard the term ... "sour grapes": usually referring to the attitude of one who does not lose gracefully. According to Wikipedia, "- refers to the denial of one's desire for something that one fails to acquire or to the person who holds such denial. ... the Persian expression: "The cat who cannot reach the meat says it stinks!". ... In psychology, this behavior is known as rationalization. It may also be called reduction of cognitive dissonance."

None of that really applies here, though ... I call this set "sour grapes" because the 18-20mm (about 3/4") smooth fluorite ovals show the beautiful colors of green and luscious purple grapes.

Then again, since these are hardly grade AAA fluorite, and many would turn up their noses at what could be seen as "low quality", that attitude could be a sort of "sour grapes" one. Because the fluorite, while cracked in places and showing many internal fractals, is beautiful in its imperfection. The fractals catch the light in various ways, causing myriad flickers and colors, almost like a prism.

Accenting the fluorite are tiny Sterling beads in an ovoid square shape, cultured freshwater pearls, and peridot heishi. Not to be outdone by the wonderfully imperfect fluorite, the peridot is also quite attractive in its rough cut shape.

The earrings are on Sterling silver hooks. They dangle approximately 1-3/4" (45mm) from the ear lobe.

Perfection may be Beauty, but not all that is beautiful is perfect! And, of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A truly gorgeous piece of jewelry.
