Nepalese Nilofur Beads

Description

The colorful necklace features 9 amazing beads handmade by Nilofur, a Tibetan woman living and working in Kathmandu, Nepal. The beads combine vintage Turquoise and Red Coral rectangles with “4-leaf clover” shaped Copal Amber pieces, all set in finely engraved brass. Nilofur marks these beads with her signature circle indents.

Copal Amber has been used in jewelry and trade beads for hundreds of years in Asia and Africa. It is a resin which is often called "new amber" since it doesn't have the benefit of age, but has many of the original characteristics

Mixed with matching Turquoise rondelles and tiny brass disks, this necklace is a delightful combination of traditional elements. The large brass "S" clasp is set with a matching Turquoise cabochon and was handmade in Kathmandu, Nepal. Measurement: appr. 18 1/4" in length.
