These booklets are folded and stapled, black and white xerox on paper, with paper covers. Some booklets have cardstock covers with colored paper pages. Where indicated, covers, and covers only, are in full color. I am selling a process, not a product. The booklets are not the "thing", but rather house a virtual workshop using my process. The real "thing" is your own expression, guided by my assignments.

Tools for Self Reflection

This kit used to come with a box that is no longer available. See if your local fine art store carries the Van Gogh acrylic paint boxes. They are free and basically garbage, but they are perfect for this kit. Otherwise, you can use any box for this kit, just cut your cards to fit. This is a very cool project that is super intense- you will be amazed at the information you uncover- wow- we are such amazing and thoughtful creatures...

(you will need cardstock for cards - you can use cardboard any thickness or old record album covers! The thicker your cardstock, the less cards you can make, the thinner the cardstock, the more...this project is designed for five cards- but once you get started, you can make more and more)

Using the revolutionary techniques developed by Juliana Coles, learn to create a deck of five mini richly textured and poetic mixed media cards that focus on the areas of your life which need your love and attention. This unique and powerful deck will be housed in a small decorated box measuring 3” x 5”. The “Love Deck,” designed to be used in tandem with your Visual Journal, will bring intention to manifesting your desire. These companion tools, the Love deck and the Visual journal, will greatly aid in uncovering hidden potential by making tangible, through words and images, your personal symbolism. Learn to access your cards for deeper introspection and self dialogue through Visual Journaling assignments. This workshop will provide various journaling tools to access symbols in your cards such as journaling prompts and word associations, how to develop non dominant hand conversations with imagery, characters, or objects, and how to use the deck as a three card spread, much like the tarot, to gain new perspectives on your personal mythology and newfound symbolism by looking at it through the lens of your past, present and future. The potential of the Love Deck as a tool for self reflection, intention and observation is endless, just like the well of your own creativity. It‘s time to reach down into it‘s darkness; it’s only love after all.

Supplies: you will need at least two large glue sticks such a UHU or some other high quality brand. You will need your Visual Journal. It is not necessary to buy a new book. Most of us have many journals lying around which we made or were given to us which we have never used or started, or wrote three pages, and never went back to. Use or Reuse something you have at home. It could be a journal or altered book you are all ready working on, or you may wish to begin a new book as a companion for your Love Deck. Bring your favorite traveling supplies. you will need: two acrylic paints in any color- one light, one dark, one brush marker, one sharpie in black, one pencil, rubber stamp letters or sticker letters, numbers or symbols as patterns (imagine suits of cards), a gel pen or poster sharpie to write on dark surfaces, and anything else you gotta have.
Imagery: Feel free to bring images of a personal nature such as important photos or other papers/ ephemera that speak to you for whatever reason. You will need one magazine and one poetry book to cut up. Please bring copies of anything precious. You may want fabric, velvet, soft leather, pretty papers, ribbon, or some kind of cool closure to decorate the outside of your box.
Each student will be required to bring a “Mystery Bag.” A plastic grocery bag will do. Some suggestions are collage items, an old paintbrush that is all glued together, that orange paint you hate, stickers from when you were 14, Artist tools and supplies you no longer use or never liked, torn up pieces of your artwork that didn’t work out (no recognizable artwork, please) books to cut up, magazines, sticks, markers, 2 inch pencils, you get the picture-sort of a grab bag. We will be using these mystery bags as part of our mixed media explorations. What, and how much to bring, is up to you. Don’t worry about trying to include nice things- we’re looking more for garbage items. We all ready have our own nice supplies-we want your cast offs to really make us think!
