Thelonious Monk is a favorite composer of mine, and, perhaps – or, likely, rather – my favorite Jazz pianist. This painting was done from another poor-quality black-and-white image of Monk sitting at his piano, looking up from the keys. I suppose his expression puts out an intimidating ‘vibe,’ but the guy was just a little nuts, not violent.

Thelonious Monk died of a stroke on February 17, 1982. He was 64.

There is no frame on this piece; the panel’s deep edges are painted black, thus making it suitable to hang "as is."
