It could be colorless, yellow, orange, red brown, light to dark blue, pink red, red, violet and light green. The name Topaz is most probably derived from an island in the Red Sea, now Zabargad but formerly known as Topazos (isn't that cool! ). Topazos was the ancient source of peridot.
The most valuable Topaz is pink to reddish orange.
