Goblin Market - Come Buy - 5x5 Print
Description
This illustration print depicts my interpretation of an excerpt from Christina Rossetti's 'Goblin Market' poem. It illustrates the evil pesky goblins trying to flog their juicy wares. This reproduction print is derived from my original mixed-media on wood 8"x8" illustration using acrylic paint, tissue paper, tracing paper, masking tape, pencil, and ink. It is part of a set of 9 illustrations, some of which are also in my Etsy shop.
This reproduction print measures 5"x5" (including white border), is printed on FujiFilm Crystal Archive photographic paper and is part of a signed, open edition.
About Goblin Market:
Written by Christina Rossetti, published in 1862, and originally illustrated by her brother Dante Rossetti. Lawrence Housman also illustrated Goblin Market.
1st verse:
MORNING and evening
Maids heard the goblins cry:
"Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy:
Apples and quinces,
Lemons and oranges,
Plump unpecked cherries-
Melons and raspberries,
Bloom-down-cheeked peaches,
Swart-headed mulberries,
Wild free-born cranberries,
Crab-apples, dewberries,
Pine-apples, blackberries,
Apricots, strawberries--
All ripe together
In summer weather--
Morns that pass by,
Fair eves that fly;
Come buy, come buy"
