Stained Glass. Autumn Leaves

Description

The Autumn leaves are formed by layering two separate layers of colored glass. One red, and one blue. The glass is a specialized layers glass called "flashed" glass. With flashed glass you can remove the top layer of color to reveal the clear beneath. The layers were painstakingly removed by hand-cutting stencils, and staged sandblasting. The individual pieces were fire-polished in a kiln then re-fired to add paint.

It is framed in fancy red jewels and vintage and reproduction textures. A dramatic seeded hand-blown was cut on a diagonal to add interest. The large blue rondelle is turn-of-the-century. The rondelle’s thick center was cut into the four rectangular pieces for the inside corners.

My goal is to create unique and beautiful glass-works. My pieces are one-of-a-kind and are often composed as I build them. A beautiful piece of glass or engraving will guide the design. I love to use hand-made glass, recycled vintage glass and unusual materials. The construction of these pieces is executed with great care with much attention to decorative details. The sculpted solder edging on my pieces consumes large volumes of solder and took years to perfect. All wire is bent by hand with no jigs or patterns.
