Vintage Simplex Puzzle
Description
This is a vintage Dutch puzzle from the early 1950’s which depicts a sleeping giant all his little friends or captives, I can't tell which. There may be a fairytale here I am missing. The brand name is SIMPLEX. These are highly collectable puzzles with a cross interest from the Simplex toy car collectors or so I read on ebay! SIMPLEX was founded in 1945 and was taken over by Fisher Price in about 1977.
The disc puzzles were made from the cut-out scrap wood pieces of Philips radio receivers due to the post-war shortage of materials. Another example of repurposing throughout history.
As you can see in the shot of the strawboard bottom of the puzzle, the round hole is not punched out which dates it as one of the older puzzles.
This puzzle is in great vintage condition with all it's pieces. Be sure and check out the fun print that lies underneath the puzzle pieces!
