Lively Lidded Vessel, terra cotta with Red Body and Yellow Chartreuse Lid

"Flicker" is from my Lively Lidded Vessel series. I live in Seattle and saw my first flicker a few years ago. It was eating insects from a crack in the sidewalk. I'd never seen one before and it seemed so exotic to me. I couldn't imagine where it came from. That feeling stays with me even though they seem to be pretty common around here these days. This is my "ode" to the flicker.

Inspired by the circus and other things simultaneously precarious and poised. These begin life on the wheel. I alter them through pulling, propping up, bending, folding, carving. I'm looking for movement and balance. I pull the longest spires possible and work with what I have. There are small windows of time when the clay is right for the next move. In making these vessels I try to find as many of those as I can before the clay needs to be left alone, so it's these little races, then waits, then races. I think the action comes out in the final piece.

"Flicker" is made of terra cotta clay, fired once, glazed, more glaze added, fired again to create glaze movement and depth, at cone 06. Not food safe.

The piece is 7 inches tall by 3 in wide.

SHIPPING: I base the U.S. shipping on USPS Priority Mail to the East Coast (I'm on the West Coast). I refund the difference between the posted shipping and actual shipping. I can ship internationally as well. Please convo me first and I'll be happy to set that up.

I have shipped these internationally with no breakage. They are double packed, first in tubes, then in boxes. Please contact me first regarding international shipping as I'd be more than happy to set that up.
