White Buffalo

Description

Native Americans often revered the White Buffalo---a rare creature---as a messenger from the gods or their ancestors. In actuality, White Buffalo are, of course, albino, just as in reality, "white turquoise" is usually howlite.

But, regardless of the source, there was something about this piece when I completed it that reminded me of Indians hunting across the prarie. So that became the inspiration for the name.

Regardless of the title of the piece, this is a beautiful necklace, simple yet stunning. The red beads add some drama, and frame the large white rounds beautifully. The howlite rounds are graduated; between the larger middle ones are dark red glass beads. Then, as the graduated white stones get smaller going around the back, the red glass stones also are smaller, so in some of the pictures, with my flash on the camera, they look almost too light---don't worry, it won't look like that in person when you are wearing it! Those same red glass beads are anchored on matching earrings by a small howlite round for a matching set!
