This pastel drawing is part of a series of landscapes based on the American West - the Dakotas, Montana, and Wyoming. Many pieces in this series are inspired by the way I saw the color in the landscape. If you looked deep into the land, color appeared out of an apparently drab scene. I love the purple shadows in this piece!

The color is worked up in pastel, and then, in a method of my own, I work over it in china marker, which gives it a slightly speckled look reminiscent of grainy photographs. This piece comes framed and ready to hang.
