Treasure Box

Description

This is a box that is an exercise in opposites. The tile is of the Talavera persuasion and this one is almost exactly 4 inches square (just over 10cm). The entire box is about 14cm square (about 5.5 inches). Those of you who may be familiar with my work will know that Talavera Tiles are 100% handcrafted and handpainted terra cotta tiles from Mexico. Because of this, no two are exactly the same in size, shape, color or appearance (very unrefined). On this OOAK tile i have painted a delicate design of poppys (very sophisticated or at least as sophisticated as i am capable of achieving)and fired it multiple times so it will not wash off or wear off. The box is handcrafted of high quality KD redwood with somewhat crude brass hinges (not seen in the photo). Inside the bottom is lined with a soft and elegant blue velvet material - that is loose and somewhat wrinkly like the skin of an elephant. The result is a treasure box that is elegant yet down to earth. I kind of like it and I hope you will too. Convo me if you want to see more!
