Description

Thank you, Etsy, for letting Etsy authors and artists promote their published books on this site!

Bringing home and decorating an evergreen tree at Christmas time is one of the most beloved holiday customs. Yet although more than forty million people in the United States alone decorate a tree each year, few of us know the origins and spiritual significance of the ritual we perform.

The evergreen has been a potent pagan symbol in almost every culture, from prehistoric Japan to Northern Africa, from Native America to Medieval Germany. My book, The Solstice Evergreen, explores the rich spiritual heritage of this ancient symbol in depth and includes a great many myths, legends, and folk tales from across the globe as well as dozens of black and white illustrations. Gathered together in this book for the first time, this rich collection of mythology presents a unique perspective spanning many cultures and centuries.

The version of The Solstice Evergreen offered here is the revised and expanded second edition. This book includes several new Christmas Tree stories as told by contemporary American storytellers. Contributers include Chuck Larkin, Julia Arrants, Larry Johnson, Howard D. Fencl, and Mary Murphy. The book was published by Aslan Publishing.
