Karst Leather Earrings by Hende

Description

These earrings are inspired by asymmetry, metal sculpture, geologic formations and the urge to wear adornments which are sculptural and unexpected.

They are made from a gray-taupe leather which is very supple and slightly shiny: the ear wires are handmade from sterling silver which has been oxidized to a lovely, almost black color. I have only a very small amount of this leather, which was rescued from a leather-repair shop. It has a slightly distressed look which I find especially charming in this design.

"Karst is a special type of landscape that is formed by the dissolution of soluble rocks, including limestone and dolomite. Karst regions contain aquifers that are capable of providing large supplies of water."
