For me, making a mosaic is a metaphor for daily life--as is appreciating the art of mosaic. Out of broken pieces, chaos and all sorts of seemingly random and unrelated objects and experiences comes something beautiful and meaningful.

The fun for me is in the treasure hunt for unusual pieces to include in a mosaic, as well as in experimenting with colors and items that one might not typically think to combine. I admit to having a love-hate relationship with "rules." While I have studied traditional techniques and color theory, I tend to want to bend and break the rules a bit. It's just not as much fun if there's no sense of fire or playfulness.
