Description

This is a hand-guided, machine-quilted, fabric-framed printed or silk screened solid panel(tenugui)— front panel is not individually pieced. The special way the individual layers of polyester/and or cotton batting are combined, brings out depth and dimension to these specially selected panels.

This is a Scroll Size Wall Hanging: 17 1/2 inches wide by 48 inches high including tabs. This measurement is the actual width of the wall hanging itself—does not include any rod measurement.

ORIGINALLY $120.00 SALE $80.00

These Japanese inspired quilted wall hangings are individually hand crafted by myself--not mass produced. Each panel is unique with the choices of coordinating fabrics used to frame each piece. 80% of all my fabrics come from Japan. These wall hangings bring a unique and refreshing change from the usual Japanese scroll, poster or art work.

For followers of feng shui, serene scenes bring good chi to one’s home.

Natural bamboo rod seen in photo is included and wall hanging is ready to hang.

Description: White hare, clear blue water with black outlining, orange blended into yellow moon. White background. 'Homespun look' blue plaid border.

Design Motif History: There is an old Chinese tale of a hare (usagi) that resides in the moon who pounds the magic herbs to make the elixir of eternal life. This belief was assimilated by the Japanese who instead see the hare in the moon pounding mochi or rice cakes. The hare and wave motif in art originated from a story in the Kojiki (Japan's oldest history book) called "Inaba no Shirousagi," or the "White Rabbit of Inaba" which is present day Shimane prefecture. According to the legend, a white rabbit crossed the ocean from Okino Island to the mainland at Inaba by using the backs of sharks as stepping stones and thus appeared to be running over the tops of the waves. This story became the theme of a Noh song that translates roughly, "While the moon floats over the ocean, a rabbit runs over the waves, what interesting island scenery."

Don't see a Japanese design or theme you are looking for? Please email me with your request. I have over a hundred wall hangings in several sizes in our inventory to choose from which can be listed on Etsy for purchase. Not sure of the color? Computer monitors can vary the color. Ask, I may be able to send you a small fabric sample of the border fabric. These wall hangings are done with precision and all seams and edges are straight and parallel which does not always show in the photograph. It is particularly difficult to photograph the scroll wall hangings and any distortion in their straight lines is due to how the photograph was taken and not the wall hanging itself.
