Description

These Japanese inspired quilted wall hangings are individually hand crafted by myself--not mass produced. Each panel is unique with the choices of coordinating fabrics used to frame each piece. 80% of all my fabrics come from Japan. These wall hangings bring a unique and refreshing change from the usual Japanese scroll, poster or art work.

This is a Scroll Size Wall Hanging: 16 1/2 inches wide by 43 1/2 inches high including tabs. This measurement is the actual width of the wall hanging itself—does not include any rod measurement.

This is a hand-guided, machine-quilted, fabric-framed printed or silk screened solid panel(tenugui)— front central/main panel is not individually pieced. The special way the individual layers of polyester/and or cotton batting are combined, brings out depth and dimension to these specially selected panels.

For followers of feng shui, serene scenes bring good chi to one’s home.

Natural bamboo rod seen in photo is included and wall hanging is ready to hang.

Description: White maneki neko cat with yellow gold bib, green collar and red ears. Deep royal blue background. Deep royal blue border.

Design Motif History: According to a 17th Century legend, the poor priest of Goutokuji Temple in Edo owned a cat named Tama with whom he shared what little food he had. One day, a wealthy lord caught in a rainstorm, took refuge beneath a tree near the temple gate where he saw a cat raising its paw in the traditional beckoning gesture. Intrigued, the lord followed the cat inside the gate for a closer look. Just at that moment, the tree where he had been standing was struck by lightning. The cat had saved the lord's life. The wealthy lord became friends with the poor priest, the temple prospered, and Tama was immortalized as maneki neko. In modern times, maneki neko, or beckoning cat figures, are often placed in shop windows to invite customers to come inside. They appear with either their left or right paw raised, the left to invite customers and the right to invite good fortune and prosperity. The height of the paw also varies, the higher the paw the warmer the invitation. They come in many colors, the tri-colored mike neko (pronounced mee-kay) native to Japan is the most popular, but white cats, symbolizing purity, black cats, said to be a talisman against evil, red cats, that exorcise illness, gold cats, to invite money, and pink cats, to attract love, can also be found. They are seen wearing red collars with bells as was the custom during the Edo era, and they are often holding a koban, or gold coin, also of the Edo era.

Don't see a Japanese design or theme you are looking for? Please email me with your request. I have over a hundred wall hangings in several sizes in our inventory to choose from which can be listed on Etsy for purchase. Not sure of the color? Computer monitors can vary the color. Ask, I may be able to send you a small fabric sample of the border fabric. These wall hangings are done with precision and all seams and edges are straight and parallel which does not always show in the photograph. It is particularly difficult to photograph the scroll wall hangings and any distortion in their straight lines is due to how the photograph was taken and not the wall hanging itself.
