sugar skull lampwork glass bead
Description
Here's a sweet little lampwork skull, inspired by sugar skulls that are made for the celebration in November, Dia De Los Muertos, Day of the Dead.My skull beads have their own personality that grows by itself when I am melting the glass to create them. This skull seems to be a lady. She is sooo glad her kids are finally back in school, and she's thinking "hello!! Can you just all go to school and get out of here? I need to get my nails done! It's been long enough! We've had enough 'quality time' and you kids need to start reading some good literature instead of playing video games all day!' ;-)
The flower helps decorate this skull as in a traditional sugar skull. Her eyes are raised for some added interest and you can see that in the side view.
Light ivory glass is used in this skull for a natural color and a few striations of the ivory are gently 'there'. She has pale transparent blue eyes and a coral flower.
Made with hot glass, lampworking with my torch, and then kiln annealing for strength.
It is 2.5 cm tall, 2 cm wide and 8mm thick, with a vertical hole thick enough for a thin leather cord or 16 g silver.
My beads are one of a kind. There will be other sugar skulls from me, but not exactly like this.
Artisan lampworked beads are so fun to wear! If you would like this on a silver loop, let me know and I can add one to the piece so it is ready to hang on a chain for a $5 charge.
