Dogwood Blossom

Description

This beautifully handcrafted dogwood blossom has been intricately carved with great detail to catch the lights and shadows in your home. Legend has it, the cross on which Jesus was crucified was made from a dogwood tree. God decreed that the dogwood tree would from that day forth never grow large enough to be used to make a cross. Thus, the dogwood tree is a small, under story tree. The flower has four petals which make the shape of a cross. The center of the flower resembles the crown of thorns with bright red, clustered fruit in the center representing the blood of Christ. For me, the tree represents the beginning of spring and the renewed life and resurrection of all the beauty the earth has to display after the slumber and rest we all need each winter.

This design was originally created as an ornament for your holiday tree but most folks hang them all year in a favorite window to catch the sunlight and create shadow magic.

Each blossom is hand carved from high quality porcelain and fired in an electric kiln to 2381 degrees. I do not use molds or slip cast any items. I spend many hours carving each piece and smoothing rough edges to create the intricate details.

The dogwood blossom measures about 3 1/2 inches and is laced with a white, sage green or deep burgundy/red satin ribbon. You may pick your ribbon color by contacting me at the contact section. If you do not choose a color, I will ship it with whatever I have in stock. It looks great with any of the colors so I don't think you will be disappointed either way. Each blossom is slipped into a homemade satin pouch for safekeeping after being removed from your tree.
