Tantalus Tantalum myth science linocut relief print original art Periodic Table of Elements

Description

This original linocut print was created for the 2007 Periodic Table of Elements Printmaking Project.

This print represents the element Tantalum (Ta 73).

Tantalum is named after Tantalus from Greek Mythology. He was King of Sipylus and much favored of the Gods. They invited him to eat with them and he was offered ambrosia – the drink of immortality. He returned their kindness, gifts, and friendship by inviting them to a banquet where he served them the dismembered body of his own son. For this and other transgressions he was sent to Hades to spend his eternity standing in water up to his neck beneath a fruit laden tree with low branches. Whenever he reached for the fruit to satisfy his hunger, the wind blew the branches beyond his reach. Whenever he bent to quench his thirst, the water would recede before he could drink.

It is printed on Rives BFK, a 100% cotton, mould-made, acid-free paper, using Daniel Smith relief ink.
All materials used are archival.
Image size is approximately 6" h x 6" w [15.3cm. x 15.3cm}
Sheet size is approximately 8 1/2" h x 8" w [21.6 cm x 20.3 cm].
It is signed, dated, and titled in pencil. It is in excellent condition - never matted or framed.

Your artwork will be shipped flat, in an acid-free, 2 mil, poly-sleeve. The protective sleeve can be used to store and protect your prints until you decide to display them.

Returns:

Notify me within 3 days of receipt of artwork. Return artwork undamaged and in the original packing within 7 days from receipt for a full refund of the price of the artwork. All shipping, handling, and insurance costs are the responsibility of the buyer.
