Christmas Ornament - wood Teddy Bear - Buddy Bear

My 9 year old son saw this bear and knew right away what to name him – Buddy! Buddy Bear is his stuffed bear, and he figures he looks just like this ornament only softer.

Designed by Kathy Wise, I’ve created this Bear ornament from solid hardwoods. This would be a great ornament for any age – from Baby’s First Christmas to the Young at Heart who still enjoy their teddy bears!

Using the scroll saw, I cut each segment from ½” wood. They are then shaped and sanded. After gluing the segments together, I add the “stitching” with a wood burner. The back is sanded flat (see picture 3 for example). The ornament is finished with a coat of tung oil which brings out the natural colors of the woods. No paints, stains, or dyes were used when making this ornament.

A screw eye was added for you to attach a ribbon, string, or hook to.

Not only do the ornaments look great on the Christmas tree, they make great gift toppers! Add to the top of a box of homemade cookies for teachers, postal workers, or others.

My exotic wood comes from a custom flooring store. They take all of their scraps and throw them into a bin. I’m able to get these cut-offs and use them in my projects, but don’t always know the species of wood.
