"Tres Riche Heures"
… is a very richly decorated Book of Hours commissioned by Jean, Duc du Berry, brother of King Charles V, in about 1410. It is probably the most important illuminated manuscript of the 15th century. The artist Pol de Limbourg used the most expensive colors obtained by grinding rare minerals. Particularly key to this palette is a rich, almost purplish blue, used in generous quantities, offset by orpiment yellow and lake red; not even a single shadow was allowed to mar the clarity of the colors. This exquisite book is in the Musée Condé, Chantilly, France … sadly kept away from the eyes of the public.

There is nothing simpler, nor more precious than a string of pearls – but wait! There is something more exotic here; an asymmetrical mix of pale ultramarine shell pearls on one side offset by a balance of perfect blue lace agates. Opposing wire wrapped accents of amethyst and citrine, iolite and fire opal, lapis and sterling, frame the central drops of honey colored chalcedony. The clasp is a sterling S-hook and eye. There is a rhythm to this piece and … lucky for you … it is not locked away in some dark museum.

This necklace will arrive with a special tarnish-fighting insert. Full care instructions will be provided.
