We, Japanese, have been using these "furoshiki" traditionaly to carry things or to wrap gifts.
These are very useful because they can fit almost anything which have different shape, weight, size, and you can use them over and over, don't need to throw away even after you opened your gift.
You can also use this as fabric for your zakka making, as bag to fold anything, as scarf, sash, cushion cover, interior, or anything you can think of.
