Cavern Jewelry Box

I suppose I could tell you a tale about the juxtaposition of the natural and the man-made and of the use of negative space. But here's the real story...

I came across this amazing pair of bookmatched boards. Bookmatched means consecutive slices from the tree and then you unfold them like a book to get matching grain. They really had it all: crotch figure, spalting, an even some small burl eyes. The colors are a whole palette of pastels highlighted with black lines. They were so nice that I couldn't bear to have one side of them hidden inside a box. So I came up with this idea of wrapping the boards around with the jewelry box floating inside. The rest of the design flowed from there.

The three walnut drawers are essentially a dovetailed box within another dovetailed box. The drawers are all just under 9" deep and 2" high internally. The internal widths are 15", 12" and 2-1/2". I can customize the drawer dividers however you like.

The overall dimensions are 24" wide, 17" high and 14" deep at the maximum.
