This Art Quilt for the wall is made of many different sunprinted fabrics in traditional fall colors as well as my favorite blues and rose pink. This piece is constructed with satin stitch piecing, and is bound with a nubby variegated yarn couched to the edges. The areas between the sunprints are crazy patch in assorted beige and ivory cottons. The sunprints are accented with hand guided machine quilting done with a gold metallic thread. The 3 dimensional leaves are "silk" leaves pulled from their plastic stems. These are stitched on with the gold metallic thread, accenting the veining in the leaves.

This piece will add a lot of interest to any wall, and will look great in any season. It has corner triangles stitched to all 4 corners on the back for hanging. While making this, I expected it to hang as pictured, but found it looks great hanging any direction. The corner triangles allow you to choose how you wish to hang this- just place a dowel into the pockets on the side you want to be the top, and hang with a picture hanger. The final photo shows it on one side.

As with the rest of my art quilts, this is a One-Of-A-Kind, as I can never exactly reproduce the fabrics I paint.

Sunprints are made by placing leaves, flowers, thin foam sheet cutouts (for butterflies or hummingbirds), and(or) any other flat items onto freshly painted cotton fabric, while the paint is still wet, and placed in the sun to dry. The combination of sun and humidity affect the speed at which the paint dries. If conditions are ideal, the color moves from under the leaves, flowers, or other items, resulting in the sunprint. No two can be the same, due to different drying conditions and paint color combinations. Every print is a unique original.
