Description
Originally published in France as 'Le 397 i'eme Elephant Blanc'. This first U.S.Edition is translated to English by Gwen March.This lovely fable by Rene Guillot, born 1900, tells the story of Light Of The Morning; the ten year old Child King who ruled over a remote Indian province. He and his courtiers set off into the jungle to find a new Imperial white elephant, who would become the lead elephant within the royal stable, assigned to carry the Child King. He will be named Hong-mo.
Rene Guillot was a leading beloved author in France writing many fine stories for children. He died in 1969.
publisher: S.G.Phillips, New York. 94 pages. Pinky-red cloth cover, bright pink art-illustrated endpapers, plus an intext one, and two-colour sketch-illustrations throughout by Moyra Leatham. Book is undamaged with tight binding, and an unmarked textblock. No dustjacket but this copy is in very nice condition, with just the lightest bit of edgewear.
This little book is a true gem.
