Nuno felt is one of the oldest known forms of textile craft. It involves many hours or even days of vigorous work: arranging silk chiffon with loose wool roving and other embellishments; introducing the combination to a soapy water environment; then subjecting it to long periods of agitation by hand. The ruching (scrunching or puckering up) effect occurs when the wool fibers twine about each other and through the silk fabric.

This “flower” or “butterfly” brooch was produced through this process with MANY hours of labor, then folded, secured with ribbon fiber and adorned with the same ribbon in a hand-crocheted freeform center. A pin was sewn on so it can be affixed to a bag, purse, scarf, lapel, hat, pillow, or even displayed in a dish on a table as a unique conversation piece! It will surely garner attention no matter how you display it!

Approximately 6” x 4” in rich tones of fuchsia, gold, rust, copper, cream wool on white tussah silk. The center is crocheted with a rich ribbon in similar shades.
