Little Zelda Gives Permission... 5 paper stickers, 2x3 inch each, blue ink

Description

Conscious reminder: You have permission. Permission to grieve, to play, to laugh, to be an artist, to live on an island, to be a writer, whatever you dream! You have permission to be exactly who you are right this minute. You have full permission.

The story:

This card with its "Permission" sign has a history. There is an island legend of a man, I believe, named Jack. He wanted to see his fellow islanders live their dreams. One day while at his dentist's waiting room, he struck up a conversation with the receptionist and discovered she was a painter. At his next visit, he asked her how the painting was coming along. She told him it was hard to find time to paint, to steal time from her day job or her family, etc. Jack took one of the appointment cards on the counter, turned it over, and wrote the word PERMISSION in capital letters on the blank side. He handed it to her, saying, "You have permission to paint."

I cried the first time I heard that story. How often does anyone give us permission to do anything -- let alone give ourselves permission!!?? Later, sadly, I learned that Jack had died and his widow sold their island retreat. Though I did get to meet his widow once or twice and she confirmed the truth of the legend for me. She said that in fact, Jack began to have business cards printed that had PERMISSION printed on them and handed them out liberally on the island. He is missed, but always remembered here.

So, recently, Little Zelda appeared to me as a character who has a lot to say. One day as I himmmed and hawwwed about having to steal time from the "commercial" work to do my art, the legend of Jack came zooming into my mind and suddenly I saw Zelda holding one of Jack's PERMISSION cards.

And now, here she is! Giving you PERMISSION for whatever you think is impossible!! Giving you permission to believe! Hope you enjoy her message as much as I'm loving it!
