Modern Madhatter

Description

Did you know Tim Burton is currently filming Alice in Wonderland? Well...that's brought back the Madhatter. Oh my gosh, he'll be played by Johnny Depp! I have a personal affinity for the Madhatter. I have a tattoo of him, along with other Alice in Wonderland characters on my ankle. My former sewn Madhatter was oversized, and a bit whacky. This version is toned down, tailored and sophisticated. Easier to wear daily, and is really smart & attractive on many people.

The hat crown is of a handfelted inky black wool felt. I cut and sewed it, accenting it with squares of deep blue appliqué. The brim is a wonderful wool in tweedy black, with off flecks of white and blue. It is accented with a sewn strip of scrap felt. The side motif features a carved bakelite button, with hand stitched woolen shape. The hat packs flat, is great in the rain and fully lined with cotton.
