Dark Square, top whorl drop spindle

Description

This spindle is very cool! Bring your yarn up just about anywhere, the design has built in notches (these can be a little too grabby for beginners/more bulky yarns but are smoothly finished so as not to catch finer yarns). They are well balanced and hold a long spin. And the best part? This won't roll away when you set it down.

Whorl: 3 x 3 inches, hand-rubbed dark stain

note: As with the stained flower spindles, I do not "make" these whorls. They are embossed wood appliques that I buy from a woodworking store. I do prepare them (drill, lightly sand and stain) for use as whorls. I also shape, sand, stain, and pre-drill the shafts for the hooks before assembling.

Shaft: hand-rubbed dark (jacobean) stain, tapered end

Fine Details: I use tiny, solid brass eye screws (opened and polished) rather than bulky cup hooks. Once complete, each spindle is sealed with several coats of premium satin polyurethane, hand-rubbed with fine steel wool between coats. Each spindle is signed, dated and the weight in fine print on the bottom of the whorl.
