Turtle Clan Gourd bowl
Description
This last October ('07) my brother gave me 6 Mexican bottle gourds. It presented a great opportunity for me to try my hand at 'Gourd Art.' This bowl was my first attempt at this ancient art form. After the gourd was cleaned I painted it with sap green oil paints then wiped it off allowing the paint to fill in the dips and imperfections in the gourd.The inside is painted light blue and varnished.
The bowl is decorated with four carved circles with turtles in the center. Green glass stones were attached for the backs of the painted turtles. Soft leather was woven around the lip of the bowl. My purpose was to create a primitive looking bowl.
The bowl measures 7 1/2 inches in diameter and about 20 inches around. This is to be used as a fine art piece and not to be used as your morning cereal bowl. A great addition for any Southwestern decor. Signed and dated on the bottom.
