Garlicky Goodness
Description
(On sale this week marked down from $10 to $5 - so your total cost for this week's meals will be even cheaper than stated below!)Do you often find yourself well past mealtime with no real food in the house, or no idea what to make? Even those of us who cook regularly can fall into not-so-healthy ruts. For everyone who wants to save money on groceries, expand their repertoire, or is simply too busy to plan meals ahead, I create weekly Menu Planning Kits with meal plans, exciting recipes, fun activities or stories, and grocery lists organized by aisle.
Hooray! It's Garlic Week! Garlic is one of my favorite things. I'll even eat garlic ice cream. And it's great for boosting the immune system - perfect for this time of year! Plus, it's such a nice warming flavor.
The groceries you will need for this kit cost about $20-$30, depending on your area and season and whether you buy organic - which makes your total food cost for a week's worth of meals (for one person) $30-$40.
Along with your grocery list organized by aisle, and fun activity or story, this kit contains the following recipes:
Scrambled Eggs Gremolata (7 breakfasts)
This is a classic French dish, simple and quick to make - high in protein - and full of flavor! Gremolata is like a rough pesto, almost; it includes garlic, parsley, and lemon.
Roast Potatoes with Garlic Aioli (4 meals)
YUM. Classic comfort food, again with a French twist. Ruth Reichl has a wonderful scene in, I think, "Comfort Me With Apples," where someone (Alice Waters?) holds a huge mortar and pestle between her thighs and pounds the garlic into a paste for aioli by hand. You can use a fork, a grater, or even a food processor if you'd rather!
Linguini with Garlic and Parsley (6 meals)
A great companion to the scrambled eggs, with its own green and flavorful spirit.
G.O.O.P. (garlic-olive oil plate - 4 meals)
So simple and so amazing. A whole platter full of roasted garlic and olive oil, really good for your heart and your spirit, soaked up with great bread. This is also a wonderful dish to learn for potlucks and holiday appetizers - it's beautiful (check out those pictures up there!) and very popular.
