Crocodile on the Sandbank
Description
I love a good mystery novel now and again, especially if that novel centers around an indomitable Englishwoman Egyptologist who wields a parasol as an (extremely formidable) weapon. As such, Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series is just my cup of tea. This eclectic little number is named after the first novel in the series and reminds me of something that might be dug up from some sandy archaeological site. At 22 and a half inches long, it contains all manner of stone, nut, and wooden beads. Among its components are jet, carnelian, moss quartz, faceted smoky quartz, picture jasper, kukui nuts, wooden beads, sunstone, red agate, and a big old yellow opal round. Best of all, there is a wonderful stripey little stone that I recently came across at my local bead shop that is actually agate that has been dyed and apparently reconstituted (don't ask me how!) to form this fabulous creation. The effect is something like a modern version of tortoiseshell and really quite stunning. The whole thing is finished off with an antiqued copper-tone toggle clasp.
I hope someone will have as much fun wearing this as I had making it!
