Description

The wood used for this shallow maple bowl is very light colored with mild but distinct bird’s eye throughout. It has a wonderful figure and is very interesting to look at. The plate was made 11 years ago, and has my initials and a cross along with “97” wood burned into the back.

The wood came from salvaged maple cut-off waste from a hardwood logging operation in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The piece would be appropriate for display as-is or with dry arrangements.

This piece was cut and sanded on a wood lathe, then fine-sanded and finished by hand with multiple coats of tung oil. The glossy oil finish will last many years and is easily refreshed with another light coat of tung oil if it ever slightly loses its sheen. Just as with any fine wood furniture, avoid contact with water and other liquids. The bottom of the piece has a small cross and my initials wood-burned into it.
