Sand Dollar Shield

Description

A trip to the coast resulted in quite a find in the shell department. I found many sand dollars but this one was just so perfect. It is hard to believe nature can create such a beautifully perfect shell. Although it is a shell, I also saw in it a touch of Native American spirit. I used tortoise shell colored matte seed beads and 30mm bugle beads to incorporate both the sea and the native colors. The pendant measures 2 1/2 inches wide by 5 inches long including the fringe. It is suspended by a 20 inch long beaded necklace and is secured with a gold pewter clasp. This one-of-a-kind creation is backed with leather and signed by the artist.
