A sculpturally expressive take on a traditional functional form. This surface is achieved only through long firing of a wood kiln. The colors are determined by the chemistry of a clay that I dig and the chemistry of the wood that burn as fuel. During the 6-10 firing process ashes are carried from the firebox through the settings of work and to the chimney on the flame's path. These ashes accumulate on the molten surface of a piece and create a natural glaze of their own on bare clay.

Note the dynamic effect of the naturally occurring stone and how its slightly torn the piece during the turning- the high silica content the stone has enlarged the torn opening as its surface became molten and flowed away.

Not your grandmother's teapot.
