Mining on the Moon-Blue Astronaut

Description

This piece is painted with artist's quality acrylics; the blue background is a many-layered glaze, which was textured with a bubble print roller. This bubble print reminded me of the craters of the moon, so I glazed the impressions with an opalescent medium to make them really stand out.

The astronaut is a photocopy of a lithograph illustration from an old story book of my children's. His spacesuit was overglazed with a shiny opalescent glaze- it shimmers in the light. The whole thing was then glazed again with a gloss medium.

The canvas is an intimately-sized 6" x 6", and is a chunky 1 1/2" thick. It is gallery-quality, with the sides wrapped and staples in the back. The sides are painted, so it is ready to hang immediately.
