My Blue Soul, a handprinted monotype by Mariann Johansen-Ellis

some mornings are blue..... not the sad kind of blue, but the wonderful peace of mind kind of shimmering blue..... "with soul" is my description of that......

"with soul" is a monotype, that means it is a one of a kind original print....a monotype means that I, the artist, on this print, gathered together, on a piece of PVC, some cutouts, these I inked up. I used a piece of palmbark, that I also inked up, I drew and made marks in rolled up ink, and then printed my "painting" on to a piece of beautiful warm white Fabriano Printmaking paper with the help of my etching press.
All the inks I used are waterbased, when the inks dried I also worked on top of the paper with colored pencil, developing the image.

I rarely do monotypes...... but always wonder why, when I do one I really like, like this print......

"with soul" measures 19.5" x 14", there is enough white surround to frame the print really nice.... this monotype is big enough to make a real statement piece with the right frame.

If you have any questions...... like what is the difference between a monotype and monoprint....a monoprint means that you have a plate , pvc, metal, whatever and you make marks on this plate that can be reproduced.
A monotype means there are no permanent marks on your base for the print, meaning there is nothing that can be reproduced......then just ask, I love talking about printmaking!!
