The Pinwheel Toy Box

Description

This is the Pinwheel Toy Box. It’s the first thing I designed to be cut on the CNC and I spent quite a long time refining this design. It might be hard to believe by looking at it; it seems so simple and is basically a box but there you have it.

I didn’t design it as a toy box but there have been so many people who have said, “what is it, a toy box” I decided to make one as a toy box. Apparently I’m pretty easy.

The Pinwheel Toy Box’s sides are made of ¾ inch Baltic birch with white laminate on the inside. The top is ½ inch thick and finished with chalkboard paint. The top is hinged and has the necessary safety feature, a hinge suppressor that ensures that a parent’s fingers don’t get pinched when the top is closed.

It is put together with Ikea style cams and dowels and is very, very sturdy and fairly heavy.

How big is the Pinwheel Toy Box? The chalkboard top is about 36 inches long and 22 inches wide and is about 16 inches off of the ground.

The inside of the box is 27 inches long by 16 ½ wide by 11 ½ deep. That’s about 4900 cubic inches of toy storage, for those of you who think that way.
