TRADITIONAL Folk Remedy from the Balkan - Burns and Cuts Ointment

Well, wow..where do I begin? I come from the heart of the Balkans - Macedonia. This ointment that I am about to present has been a well known folk remedy for burns, cuts, scraped skin etc.

I did not make it for the good smell, but for the healing properties of the herbs and oils. My grandma was making it with olive oil (which is great for stimulating new cell growth on the skin), sunflower oil (which is the ONLY oil naturally full of vitamin E), St Johns Wort ( the most under-appreciated herb that there is and is good for just about everything - no kiddin), Yarrow (which legends tell that the hajduks that fought against the Turks always had this herb with them to help the wounds and myth says that it was the herb of Hercules - and they both hold true, it is good for open wounds, sores and dry skin), Carrot Seed Essential Oil. The only thing that I added is Beeswax, which gives it a consistency (my grandmas was just oil) and Coconut Oil - which to gether with the beeswax creates a protective layer over the skin.


This can helps a LOT with new tattoos too! I have been using it on my husband and it works perfectly! Any other ointments that contain petroleum or lanolin just clog the skin and doesnt let it breathe. When you cover the fresh tattoo with a balm - its not suppose to be gooey! This leaves a thin layer behind and promotes speedy recovery!


One CAUTION - please clean the wound or sore or burn before you apply this. The beeswax and coconut oil are so good at making a protective layer over the skin, that it might trap the infection inside .
